The Environmental Engineering Technology Section started operation in 2002 and successfully established diploma, bachelor, master and PhD programs. Our academic staff is highly skilled and experienced in the field of environmental engineering with 100 % holding an environmental engineering related degree while 50 % are in the possession of a PhD from UK and world renowned universities such as University of Cambridge, Heriot-Watt University, University of Nottingham and University of Sheffield.

Our students can enjoy the best equipped lab facilities in Malaysia as testified by visiting local and European researches and Professors. Environmental Engineering Technology students get the chance to mingle and establish friendship with visiting students from Cambodia, France, Germany, India, Italy, Pakistan, Uganda and USA.

Environmental Engineering Technology students are active members of ENACTUS, formerly known as Student In Free Enterprise (SIFE). ENACTUS is a community of student, academic and business leaders committed to using the power of entrepreneurial action to transform lives and shape a better, more sustainable world.

EcoFriendlyClub was established as a platform for student to contribute their environmental commitment towards a greener and cleaner environment. Their projects have received awards at USM’s Novel Research and Innovation Competition (NRIC) and UNESCO’s Mondialogo competition.

The Environmental Engineering Technology Section is intended to provide the additional skills and knowledge that engineering and science graduates require to successfully work on environmental assignments such as contaminated sites, water treatment facilities, sustainability management, contaminant hydrogeology, integrated solid waste management, environmental impact assessment, air quality, climate change, resource management, and green energy technology projects.

Our programs recognize the wide range of engineering, technology and entrepreneurial skills and know-how required by the industrial as well as public sector. Hence our programs are structured to accommodate the needs of a diverse range of applicants. The combination of common core topics, management courses, specialty courses, industry-sponsored project and liberal studies courses provides a unique balance of skill sets that prepares candidates for a broad range of career opportunities. There are many careers that require knowledge in this area -- from the highly specialized and technical environmentalists who work in the petro-chemical, water, food, metallurgical, automotive, power or building industry, to those who partake in decision-making and enforcement, which affect the society in a massive way. Field workers comprise of environmental evaluators, assessors, auditors, consultants, and researchers. Environmental decision-makers include regulatory and government officials, environmental system managers, as well as advisors to various environmental NGO's.
